Is Industrial Clear food-safe for kitchen counters and food prep areas?

Yes. Once Industrial Clear has cured for 7 days, it’s food-safe and suitable for kitchen countertops, islands, and other food prep surfaces. Its seamless, non-porous finish won’t absorb moisture or trap debris, making it easy to keep clean between meals and everyday use.

Can I use my kitchen knives directly on an epoxy countertop?

We recommend using a cutting board for chopping and food prep. While Industrial Clear creates a hard, scratch-resistant surface, sharp knives can leave marks. Using a cutting board will help maintain the appearance of your countertop.

What if I want to add colorants or pigments to my countertop?

Industrial Clear can be used with many pigments, metallic powders and dyes to create custom looks. If your countertop will be used for direct food contact, we recommend finishing the project with a final clear coat of Industrial Clear over the decorative layer. This provides a fully food-safe surface once fully cured.

Can I place hot pans or baking sheets directly on the countertop?

Industrial Clear is heat-resistant up to 190°F (88°C) once fully cured, making it suitable for everyday kitchen use. However, cookware taken directly from a hot oven or stovetop can exceed this temperature. To prevent damage to the finish, always use trivets, hot pads, or potholders under hot cookware.

Will my countertop stain from coffee, red wine or food spills?

Industrial Clear creates a non-porous surface that helps prevent common household spills from soaking in and causing stains. Fresh spills rarely cause damage and can typically be wiped away with a soft cloth and mild cleaner. However, the surface can still absorb pigments from substances like red wine, tomato sauce, turmeric and berries if spills are left to sit for extended periods, potentially leaving permanent stains. As with any countertop surface, it’s best to clean spills promptly.

Will there be strong odors in the house during a countertop remodel?

Industrial Clear is formulated with a low odor and no solvents or VOCs, making it a more comfortable option for indoor projects than many traditional coatings. While you may notice a mild odor during application and curing, most homeowners find it dissipates quickly with normal ventilation. Opening windows and providing airflow during the project is always recommended.
